CALOOCAN CITY, April 28 (PIA) -- The Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) confiscated smuggled pork products worth P1.5 million in Tondo on Tuesday, April 27.

VIB Director Nick Santos said 302 boxes of imported pork belly from Germany were seized from the house of a certain Jonabel Jalimao Factor located along J. Abad Santos around 10 a.m.

Santos said that the house of Factor has a cold storage inside where the 6,040 kilos of smuggled products are being stored. Factor also has a business name under the name Gou Ren han Food products.

However, upon verification, Bureau of Permits Director Levi Facundo noted that the said business name has no record in the City of Manila.

"Wala yung name na yan. Walang record sa name na Gou Ren Han or the name of wife," Facundo said while noting that "even home business should get a permit."

Facundo is now coordinating with VIB office in Vitas, Tondo for proper action regarding the incident.

To recall, it is VIB's mission to promote public health, food safety and animal welfare. (PIA NCR)
