164 farmer-beneficiaries in La Union receive land titles from DAR

SAN FERNANDO CITY, May 8 (PIA) -- A total of 164 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) from four local government units in La Union now officially own the land they are tilling after receiving their Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)-La Union.

On May 6, 164 farmer-beneficiaries from Naguilian, Bagulin, San Gabriel, and this city were awarded with their CLOAs in a simple ceremony held at the Naguilian Central School in Naguilian town.

Some 105 CLOAs, both collective and individual, were distributed with land area covering 136.9591 hectares.

In her message, Atty. Emily Padilla, DAR Undersecretary for Support Services Office, emphasized that land distribution is the marching order of President Rodrigo Duterte amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Ang sinabi ng ating Pangulo, gusto niyang maging centerpiece program ng kanyang administrasyon ay ang pamamahagi ng lupa o repormang agraryo,” Padilla said.

She added, “Umiikot kami sa buong bansa na kahit may COVID-19, narito po kami at namamahagi ng lupa.”

Likewise, the DAR official underscored that farmers are among the heroes of the nation and that land ownership for them is part of social justice.

“Itong pamamahagi ng gobyerno ng lupa, sa pamamagitan ng aming departamento, ay simula ng social justice kaya sana ay pagyamanin at pagkakitaan niyo ang inyong lupang sinasaka,” she said.

Meanwhile, she encouraged all ARBs to avail of various programs of the DAR which can further help them achieve economic resiliency and increase agricultural production.

These include credit facilitation with low interest rate and common service facilities, among others.

Also present in the CLOA distribution are other key officials of the DAR from head office down to the La Union office, Naguilian Mayor Nieri Flores, and San Gabriel Mayor Herminigildo Velasco.  (JCR/AMB/JPD, PIA La Union)
