NAVAL, Biliran, May 8 (PIA) -- Key officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the schools division office (SDO) of Biliran province, bared in a government radio program, their interventions to learners and employees while still in the pandemic.
According to Dr. Lucille Curso-Roa, chief of the schools governance operations division (SGOD) of SDO-Biliran, the provincial government of Biliran thru the initiatives of Biliran Governor Rogelio J. Espina and Congressman Gerardo J. Espina Jr., hired some 255 Learning Support Aids (LSAs) and were deployed to all the elementary schools in the province.
Roa said that the fund for the hiring of LSAs was sourced out from TUPAD of the Department of Labor and Employment.
She said that hired LSAs visit to homes of pupils in the kindergarten up to Grade 3 levels to help and assist their modular learning needs.
"In fact, this program is only in our province in the entire Region 8, and this started in February this year and will end on June in time with the closing of classes," she added.
Roa also acknowledged the notable contributions of local government officials, parents, socio-civic organizations, and kindhearted individuals, who have helped unburden their tasks in the face of the many challenges faced by SDO-Biliran in this time of the pandemic.
For her part, Dr. Judella R. Lumpas, schools division superintendent of SDO-Biliran, reported that the Curriculum Implementation Division of SDO-Biliran, adapted the offline learning modality using canned video lessons to help the struggling students during the modular distance learning.
Ryan G. Japay, SDO-Biliran information officer, added, that the videos will go through a quality assurance personnel before it will be published.
Lumpas further said that the division ventures on DREAMS, which stands for Division Review, Evaluation, Adjustment of PAPs and Management System.
"DREAMS helps improve the identified processes in SDO-Biliran," Lumpas said, adding this is aimed at achieving satisfaction to services provided to clients.
SDO-Biliran's teachers and staffs need not go to SDO to follow-up on something like salaries and privileges as they are already given on time, she said.
The head of SDO-Biliran also said that they are now applying for the PRIME-HRM with the Civil Service Commission (CSC), and is now in the process of finalizing their handbook.
On the aspect of the calendar of classes, Lumpas informed that the last day of classes will be on July 10 based on the Department of Education Order No. 12 series of 2021.
Meanwhile, SDO-Biliran is just waiting for the final decision of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, pertaining to the scheduled opening of classes for SY: 2021-2022 set on August 23 in accordance to Republic Act 11480. (ldl/rsv/Ana Marie F. Kaagbay/PIA Biliran)
