TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, May 8 (PIA) -- With coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) cases averaging at 70 daily in the past week, Dauis town in Panglao Island, some three kilometers away from Tagbilaran City, has put up intensive measures for its residents to observe in an attempt to curb the spread of infection.
Through Executive Order No 22, series of 2021, Mayor Marietta Sumaylo provided for intensive and unified guidelines for health protocols on activities for all residents to arrest the spread of the disease that has placed the town second to Tagbilaran City in active COVID-19 cases.
With May expected to bring out the goodness and hospitality among Boholanos, the local leaders have decided to order all concerned chapels that may have chapel fiesta celebrations not to set up food preparations with gatherings around the chapel premises.
“Considering the expected Chapel Fiesta celebrations in some sitios or barangays in our municipality during this month of May and other months, all concerned chapels are not allowed to celebrate fiesta through food preparations with gatherings around the chapel premises except for the conduct of Holy Mass and food for the officiating priests,” the order stated.
Strict health protocols should always be followed, the order reminded.
For those at home, food preparations are only conducted at the respective homes and only for family members.
The town also issued policies in celebrations of birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and other life events.
"To avoid the spread of the disease, no birthday, wedding, death anniversaries will be celebrated with considerable number of guests at respective homes, except for family members only."
With the town sharing the beautiful beaches that Panglao Island is popular for, Dauis sees these as potential venues for large gathering and are potential virus super-spreaders.
"Beach party and picnics would not be allowed in the beaches in the towns barangays, while contact sports like basketball, volleyball, and the like are prohibited in all barangays," the said order stated.
In the town, however, indoor and outdoor non-contact sports continue to be allowed.
The order also imposes the wearing of face shields on top of face masks while transacting official business at the town hall and barangay offices.
It also reminds the members of the Local Task Force on COVID-19 and the Philippine National Police as Law Cluster Head, in coordination with barangay officials and barangay tanods, to supervise and implement the prohibitions and monitor the implementation of health protocols.
All violators of the prohibitions would be subjected to penalties according to previously issued municipal ordinance, the mayor said.
