VIGAN CITY, May 29 (PIA) - As of May 27, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur has so far given more than 30,000 residents their first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) said a total of 33, 230 frontline health workers (A1), senior citizens (A2), and people with comorbidities (A3) in Ilocos Sur got their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines (Coronavac and AstraZeneca combined).
For A1, some 14,683 health workers got their first dose of Coronavac and AstraZeneca.
Of this number, some 6,991 got their second dose of the Coronavac vaccine.
For A2, some 13,556 senior citizens got their first dose of the vaccines while for A3, some 4,991 residents received their first dose.
The PHO added that a total of 29,261 vials of the Coronavac and 2,206 vials of the AstraZeneca vaccines were delivered to its cold storage here since the rollout of vaccination in the province on March 5.
The latest arrival was on March 24 when an additional batch of Sinovac vaccines totalling 5,500 doses for the second dose of recipients who were earlier vaccinated and 3,054 first dose for the remaining recipients belonging to priority groups A1, A2, and A3.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur turned over to the PHO the refrigerated van which will be utilized for the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to the Rural Health Units and district hospitals in the province.
Governor Ryan Luis Singson is full of hope that with this, more efficient and steady delivery of vaccines will be conducted once the Sputnik V vaccines, which was ordered by the provincial government for the mass vaccination of eligible IlocosSurians, arrive in the preceding months.
Dr. Trina Talaga said that the refrigerated van can store up to -40 degrees Celsius which meets the required storage temperature of Sputnik V and Moderna vaccines.

While vaccination among people is voluntary, Goverson Singson continues to encourage all eligible residents to avail of the ongoing government immunization program amid the pandemic.
Meanwhile, in the municipality of Lila in Bohol province, Mayor Arturo Piollo II said that they’ve accomplished 92 percent plus of A1 vaccinations and they’re doing the A2 and A3 now.
This is because of the efficient information drive the local government is conducting, he said.
“We intensified our information drive; if there are people who are hesitant, I have my NDPs visit them house to house and I went to our upland barangays to personally convince the frontliners, barangay officials, and the elderly to get vaccinated,” Mayor Piollo said during the Network Briefing News on May 27.
