KBP, stakeholders initiate ‘Bike For A Cause’ project

PAGADIAN CITY, May 1 (PIA) - More than a hundred cyclists in the city and neighboring areas of the province participated in the ‘Bike For A Cause’ event held recently.

The 24-kilometer charity biking event was organized by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Zamboanga del Sur chapter, in partnership with the 1st Field Artillery (Beat ‘Em) Battalion, Army Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry (Leader) Squadron, Mechanized Infantry Division, Philippine Army, Tactical Operations Group, Philippine Air Force and Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO).

Melchor Coronel, chairman of the KBP local chapter said the event was held with stakeholders to raise funds and help the underprivileged sector of society especially persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city whose livelihoods have been affected due to of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

He added ‘Bike For A Cause’ not only promotes the mental and physical health of cyclists especially in this time of pandemic but also sends a message of peace and unity among the people of province.

“As a student and cycling enthusiast, it is my responsibility to help promote a healthy lifestyle by participating in this activity to strengthen our immune system as we now face the threat of pandemic,” said Mark John Alforqu, one of the participants.

During the event, a raffle draw was also held where a number of prizes were awarded to lucky winners including three bicycles as major prizes.

Florencio Ofima, Jr., broadcaster of DXBZ Radyo Bagting also thanked KBP for his unexpected win of a bike in the raffle draw.

“I was shocked and delighted to be one of the lucky ones to receive that bike. I admire the leadership of KBP for the commendable project they have put together just to help those in need. As a KBP member, I will continue to support their future activities, ”Ofima said happily.

Special awards were also given to the youngest and oldest participant, most number of family members, and a group from the farthest area. (EDT/GCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
