CEBU, May 3 (PIA) -- The Lapu-Lapu City Local Youth Development (LYD) together with other stakeholders in the city has undertaken various programs and services for the youth amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local Youth Development Officer Tristom Shaun Romero shared during the Network Briefing News interview that they conducted clean-up drive, gift giving, and feeding programs to advocate for a cleaner and healthier future for the youth.
The said activities are in partnership with the Lapu-Lapu city government, Kabataang Makadagat (KAMADA), Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terorismo (KKDAT), Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, and some non-government organizations.
“This is also to influence the youth that the environment needs to be taken cared of. Living in a healthy environment makes us healthier," said Romero.
He added that "clean-up drives are already a regular activity because we want to do our best to keep our beaches and oceans as clean as possible since the beaches in Lapu-Lapu City are tourist attractions here in Cebu.”
Meanwhile, the Lapu-Lapu City government, City Health Office, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Public Information Office together with the LYDO are also producing flyers and leaflets on the importance of COVID-19 vaccination and how safe it is to be inoculated.
They are also using social media to help promote their advocacies for the youth to be guided and motivated to continue their work and studies in the middle of the pandemic.
Romero emphasized that the important thing to do is to strictly follow the minimum health standard protocols set by the government.
He also encouraged the youth to avail of the opportunity to be vaccinated once the vaccines are available for them.
The LYDO in partnership with the Department of Education Lapu-Lapu City initiated the “Project Libro."
A total of 800 hardbound books have already been distributed to the two high schools in Olango Island under the said program.
The youth sector in Lapu-Lapu City is also active in campaigning against illegal drugs and terrorism through the conduct of online seminars and symposa. (hgf/PIA7)
