TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 29 (PIA) - - - While Tuguegarao City is placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), the Police Regional Office here through its Community Affairs Division reached out to over 125 residents of Sitio Avvut in barangay Carig Norte in this city.
The beneficiaries each received grocery packs and COVID-19 care kits such as facemask, soaps, and alcohol.
Col. Mario Malana, chief RCAD, said the PNP Barangayanihan is one way of the police to help individuals especially those less privilege and severely affected by the pandemic.
The program also aims to show to the public that the police is ready to lend their helping hands in all circumstances across all sectors and encourage other organisations to support the cause of the PRO-2, according to Malana.
Marilou Cumagun, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude to the police saying that the packs given to them would be very helpful to suffice their daily food for two days.
As a plain housewife and whose husband now works as on call carpenter, she appreciates the Barangayanihan program of the PNP as it uplifts their to remain hopeful especially them whose livelihood are affected due to pandemic.
For his part, Carig Norte Barangay captain Manuel Tagacay extends the same gratitude to the police for choosing his constituents as the beneficiaries of the Barangayanihan program today.
“Masaya po ako sa dinala ng PNP na tulong po sa mga constituents ko. Hindi po ma-ipicture ang kasiyahan ng mga ka-barangay ko rito [kaya] salamat po talaga” Tagacay added.
On the other hand, PRO-2’s partner non-government organization Sierra Falcones also joined the activity today where its volunteers provided treats for the schoolchildren.
The Barangayanihan covers all existing police-community relations support activities as it aims at boosting the Bayanihan spirit among PNP and the people in the community.
The PNP here has long been conducting police-community relations programs such as Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko, Community Feeding Program, Adopt-a-Family Program, PNP Food Bank, Libreng Pabahay and other community support services that are existing and implemented in the different provincial offices down to police stations.
The project aims to intensify the PNP’s various forms of assistance that strategically situate immediate implementation in barangays, being the basic political unit of the society and the base of the grassroots citizenry. This will be implemented in different forms, from relief operations, feeding programs, civic activities, etc., all of which are not new to the organization. (MDCT/PIA-2)
