PARAÑAQUE CITY, May 12 (PIA) -- Parañaque City is capable of handling specialized COVID-19 vaccines such as Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputnik V, according to Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
Olivarez said the city has made an agreement with Zuellig Pharmaceutical as it gears up to inoculate city residents against COVID-19 with Pfizer vaccine.
Zuellig Pharmaceutical, he said, has a storage capability of up to -70 degrees centigrade.
From the airport, the vaccines will be brought to their storage and to the city’s vaccination centers.
The city will soon roll out the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for priority groups A1 to A3.
“Nakipagmeeting na po yung ating City Health Office sa Department of Health para sa proper rollout ng Pfizer dito sa lungsod ng Parañaque,” the mayor said.
As an initial requirement, this first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines totaling 93,050 doses will be distributed in Metro Manila, Cebu City, Davao City, and other major cities that can handle the required temperature of -70 degrees centigrade.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Philippines has approved in January the Emergency Use Authorization for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which has an overall efficacy rate of 95 percent.
The mayor also said the city government can continue vaccinating with the second dose with the arrival of more than 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX facility this week. (PIA NCR)
