San Fernando City downgrades to MGCQ

SAN FERNANDO CITY, May 7 (PIA) – – The lone city of La Union will shift to Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) effective Saturday, May 8.

MGCQ is the lowest classification of community quarantine amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In his Executive Order No. 23 issued on Thursday, Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega III said the number COVID-19 cases in the province and this city decreased.

Since May 3, the city and the province, as a whole, have been identified to be at minimal to moderate COVID-19 risk level.

Earlier, Ortega put the city under GCQ from April 24 to May 7 due to increased COVID-19 cases.

“Before the expiration of GCQ in the city, the provincial government consulted with the concerned component local government unit on the recommendation to lift the heightened classification in the respective locality and place the same under lesser category of community quarantine,” Ortega said.

The governor has directed the local chief executive and the local police to ensure compliance with MGCQ guidelines set forth in the amended Omnibus Guidelines issued by the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Currently, San Fernando City has 144 active cases. (JCR/AMB/JPD, PIA La Union)
