PASIG CITY, May 11 (PIA) -- Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, USAID’s TB Platforms in collaboration with Manila City Health Office conducted a weeklong active case finding (ACF) activities for tuberculosis (TB) in Barangays 254, 343, Santiago, Sases and Baseco.

During the initial meeting with Manila City Health Office, senior citizens who are at high-risk for TB are the primary beneficiaries of the ACF. USAID’s TB Platforms coordinated with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs for this initiative.

The overall target of USAID’s TB Platforms for this weeklong ACF is 7,439 patients.

In coordination with LGU partners, each ACF had a representative from USAID’s TB Platforms, 2 encoders and 1 sputum collector.

Free chest X-ray were given to all those who were screened and sputum specimens were collected at the site for those found to have TB symptoms.

Specimens were also given to STRiders on the same day and were brought to designated RTDL labs.

According to USAID’s TB Platforms, a total of 6,212 individuals out of the 7,439 target clients were screened with 6,194 provided with free chest X-ray; 18 had recent chest X-rays taken with normal results and 724 were referred for GenExpert testing.

Meanwhile, the Manila City Health Office will provide USAID’s TB Platforms with the official results and will schedule a post-activity meeting next week.

Led by USAID’s TB Platforms Field Operations and Area Manager Dr. Hansel Ybañez, the project team will hand over the screening forms and encoded data to the Manila City Health Office.

USAID’s TB Platforms is also in charge of the follow-up for the chest X-ray results and sputum collection for those found to have X-ray findings suggestive of TB (BC or CD cases) and to check if appropriate treatment has been started. (PIA NCR)
