DILG-10: Let's avoid higher quarantine level, follow health protocols

(We ask everyone to help us because we know that everybody, even the local government units do not want a higher community quarantine level because we know that such entails more difficulty to those who hardly make both ends meet since we could not immediately provide the help that they need)

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 Regional Director Arnel Agabe said to prevent the escalation of quarantine classification, everybody must always observe the minimum public health standards such as the wearing of face masks and face shields, social distancing and proper hand washing.

During the Normin COVID-19 Response Task Force press conference, June 4, Agabe said the LGUs and even the national government could hardly provide the assistance needed by the residents saying, "Ang problema nato for sure dili na insakto nga makatubag gyud sa tanan nga panginahanglan sa atong mga lumulupyo. Kana lagi nga limited na gihapon ang atong pondo sa pagkakaron."

(Our problem for sure is that what we have is not enough to address all the needs of the constituencies. This is due to the fact that our funds are still limited)

As for the Bayanihan to Arise as One bill (Bayanihan 3) with P401 billion budget, approved on the third and final reading, June 1, Agabe said they have not yet received the guidelines from the national government.

“And of course this would still need approval from the Joint Bicameral Committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and approved by the President,” he added.

MECQ in CDO

“The RIATF [Regional Inter Agency Task Force] did not request that the whole Region 10 be under GCQ [General Community Quarantine]. Ang naa’y request for a General Community Quarantine escalation from MGCQ mao ang Cagayan de Oro pero nakabalo naman ta sa desisyon sa atoang NIATF nga gipailawom ang CDO sa MECQ [Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine],” Agabe said.

(The request for a General Community Quarantine escalation from MGCQ is coming from Cagayan de Oro and we now know that the decision of the NIATF is to put CDO under MECQ)

He added that such is the response of the NIATF after the region submitted the assessment reports that include health, social, economic, and security parameters.

On the interventions made in Cagayan de Oro, Agabe said they currently have 178 DILG-hired contact tracers that forms part of the 1,526 total contact tracers in the city.

The department along with the other national line agencies also regularly meet through the Task Group on Governance to identify various challenges in implementing programs and services to contain the spread of COVID-19.

"Dapat magtinabangay tang tanan sa pagkakaron nga kinahanglanon ang atong mga lumulupyo mutabang na sa national government, mutabang na sa atong local government units kay maglisod na ta nga magsalig nga naa’y ihatag nga ayuda kung mutaas pa ang atong community quarantine classification," Agabe said.

(We should help one another. We need our constituencies to help the national government and local government units because we could not solely rely on the assistance from the government if our community quarantine classification gets higher)

As of June 4, there are a total of 22,628 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in northern Mindanao, 16,578 of whom have recovered, 693 have expired, and 5,357 cases are currently active. (RTP/PIA10)
