DAVAO DEL NORTE, June 4 (PIA) – Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) Head of Re-Emerging/Emerging Infectious Disease Team, Dr. Mitzie Lou Osabel, has stressed the importance of prevention during the current state of Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
With the economic activity resuming after the implementation of MCGQ, Dr. Osabel expects a resurgence of COVID-19 related admissions in the hospital.
“For the past week nalipay mi kay wala jud mi admission, but siyempre dili mapugngan nga mubalik na jud because of the economy…mao nga nakaingon ko sa akong team nga wala pa jud tay pahulay (We were happy for the past few weeks because there were no admissions, but now of course we can’t stop it from coming back due to the economy [needing to recover] … that’s why I told my team we won’t be resting anytime soon,” she said.
Osabel added that there will be more threat of transmission with the opening of the transport sector inciting movement of the people.
She sees prevention as important since the two recent COVID19 cases from IGACOS have “alarmingly” shown to have no history of travel, arousing curiosity to the possibility of local transmission.
“Careful gyod kaayo ta karon kay dili na gyod nato na mahibaw-an kung kinsa ang positive. Kanang ginatawag nila nga asymptomatic carrier, walay simptomas pero positive (We really have to be careful because we don’t know who’s positive [of COVID19]. Those they call asymptomatic carrier have no symptoms but they are positive,” Dr. Osabel said.
With this, she reiterates the importance of prevention.
“So ang atong buhaton individually, is to prevent na lang jud. Kung wala jud reason nga mogawas sa balay, better jud to stay at home (So what we can do individually, is to prevent. If there is no important reason to go out of the house, it really is better to just stay home).”
She further reminded that this is the best time to “be safe than sorry”, that people should always wear mask, maintain social distancing, and disinfecting when going out as it is the new normal. (Jan Vincent Leuterio/PIA-XI)
