BORONGAN CITY, Aug. 25 (PIA) -- Engineer Lucito Afable of the City Government of Borongan said that construction of the modern isolation facility in this city is now at 90 percent complete with a total project cost of P13.9-M from the one-time Bayanihan Grant to Cities and Municipalities (BGCM).
The fund was downloaded to the LGU in April 2020 intended to boost the capacity of local government units to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda visited and inspected the site of the city’s modern isolation facility at Barangay Campesao.
According to Agda the said facility has a capacity of 28 beds and will be equipped with high-grade medical equipment in all of its 14 rooms, nurse stations, and quarters.
“In the event that the Department of Education (DepEd) disallows the continued use of schools as isolation facilities, Borongan City is ready to accommodate the influx of returning Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) and Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs),” Mayor Agda said.
The City Mayor disclosed that aside from this modern isolation facility, there are four other isolation facilities being constructed in barangays Sta. Fe, Maypangdan, San Jose and Binogawan, in addition to the existing isolation facilities in barangays Songco and Sohutan.
It can be recalled that even before the COVID-19 pandemic, one of Agda’s major priorities is to modernize and strengthen the public health care systems of Borongan City by providing free medicines to all Borongannons through the establishment of the City Pharmacy which will open soon.
The LGU is also hiring more rural health physicians and other healthcare professionals, and the building of primary healthcare facilities in strategic locations of the city.
Meanwhile, on July 14, 2020, the Department of Public Works and Highways – Eastern Samar District Engineering Office formally turned-over a new quarantine facility in Brgy. Songco, Borongan City.
The new quarantine facility “We Heal as One Center” is now under the control and management of the City LGU.
“Once the pandemic is over, all of these facilities will be utilized as primary healthcare centers as part of his broader roadmap to boost and modernize the public healthcare of Borongan,” the City Mayor said. (nbq/SDC/PIA-E. Samar)
