Calanasan records COVID-19  local transmission   

CALANASAN, Apayao, Aug. 24 (PIA) -- The municipality recorded local transmission of COVID-19 with a new case last August 20.

Municipal Health Melendrina Abagao confirmed the new case is a 32 year old female government employee and a resident of Poblacion, Calanasan.  She is a second level contact of the first COVID-19 patient of town, and the fourth case of the municipality. 

The first COVID-19 case of Calanasan is a 52 year old male security guard stationed at the Amma Jadsac District Hospital in Pudtol who came home to Calanasan. 

The other cases include a 16 year old male who was hospitalized in Tuguegarao City and a 25 year old construction worker who came from Tublay, Benguet.

Abagao said that the local government unit of Calanasan immediately implemented lockdown of the different barangays and areas where the patients have been after the confirmation of the cases on August 13 for contact tracing.

Swab testing were conducted to first and second level contacts of the patients, unfortunately one tested positive of the COVID-19.

Abagao said that as of August 20, the LGU placed on lockdown the residence and adjacent houses of the new patient while another round of contact tracing is being undertaken. 

As of Aug. 20,   Apayao now has 32 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 21 recoveries and 11 active patients. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
