DA 2 strengthens surveillance activities vs. ASF

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan. Sept. 9 (PIA) –  Regional Executive Director Narciso Edillo of the Department of Agriculture (DA) regional office here has ordered the Regional Crisis Management Team (RCMT)  to intensify its effort in their war against African Swine Fever (ASF) after 14 towns and Cauayan City in Isabela were affected.

Edillo being the chair of the team said they need to work together to ensure that ASF will be contained so that it will not affect other towns or provinces.

He named the affected towns as Roxas, Aurora, Quezon, Luna, Ramon, Mallig, Echague, San Manuel, Burgos, Reina Mercedes, Alicia, San Mateo, Cabatuan and Cauayan City.

He urged local government units to come up with an executive order or resolutions from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for the imposition of fines for those who will violate quarantine protocols as far as ASF is concerned.

During the RCMT meeting recently, the team agreed to strengthen monitoring and surveillance activities along boarders and entry points in the region.

While DA lacks manpower to facilitate checkpoints and other  monitoring activities, members of the team also agreed to provide augmentation of personnel from the Bureau Of Animal Industry (BAI) and local government units concerned.

Narciso said there is a continuous conduct of surveillance and blood sampling in affected and neighboring towns. (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
