TAGBILARAN CITY, Sept. 24 (PIA) -- The local government unit of Tagbilaran City received another accolade for its exemplary initiatives.

The Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine (PCLM) recently conferred the City Government of Tagbilaran the “Kagalingan sa Kalusugan (KSK) Award” under the Local Government Unit Advocate of Health category.

This is one of the three major awards given nationwide this 2020.

PCLM’s three major awards are: Lifestyle Medicine Physician of the Year  given to health practitioners whose outstanding achievements help advance the practice of Lifestyle Medicine in the country;  Local Government Unit Advocate of Health which recognizes efforts in localities, as headed by the Local Chief Executive with exemplary initiatives; and Lifestyle Medicine Advocate of the Year which recognizes individuals who are not involved in the medical field, but whose efforts directly promote key areas of Lifestyle Medicine to a wide populace.

For the Local Government Unit Advocate of Health category, PCLM recognized Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II and the local government unit of Tagbilaran City for its exemplary initiatives in promoting health and public safety.

PCLM recognized the tech-savvy, young Chief Executive of Tagbilaran City who has an online presence that draws attention, using social media platforms to deliver timely information to all the city residents.

Describing himself as an athletic person, Yap supports, promotes, and encourages people towards sports and physical activities, one of the pillars of Lifestyle Medicine.

In the middle of a health crisis, aside from having the LGU provide food supplies to households, Yap’s initiative in mobilizing the deployment of food trucks to ensure that families in need will have access to  nutritious meals was also cited.

PCLM added that what set the young mayor apart was the establishment of KALINAW, an initiative that highlighted the importance of providing emotional and mental health support to his constituents, a need that was recognized and immediately acted upon.

Through KALINAW, they were also able to provide stress debriefing sessions to their frontliners.

PCLM recognized Yap and the local government unit of Tagbilaran City for their programs that bring to fore the holistic concept of well-being as PCLM is committed towards advocating for and promoting the advancement and excellence of clinical practice and public policy issues relating to lifestyle medicine.

Yap, in his Facebook post, expressed his gratitude to PCLM for recognizing their unwavering passion and hard work in promoting health and public safety for the Tagbilaranons.

On behalf of Tagbilaran City, Yap accepted the citation in a virtual awarding ceremony on Sept. 23, 2020. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)
