MANOLO FORTICH, Bukidnon, Sep. 1 (PIA)--Experiencing the adverse effects of coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, the Municipal Government of Manolo Fortich sought ways to provide sustainable livelihood program to its residents especially the returning locally stranded individual (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
"Ang daming LSIs at ROFs na umuwi na talagang nahihirapan kasi nawalan sila ng mga trabaho pero in our own little way, since Manolo Fortich is just a small municipality so very limited ang resources namin, pinapakita namin na pinapahalagahan namin sila," Manolo Fortich Mayor Clive Quiño said in an interview with Communications Secretary and Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS)-X Martin Andanar, September 1.
(A lot of LSIs and ROFs, who returned here, are having a hard time since they lost their jobs but in our own little way, since Manolo Fortich is just a small municipality and we have very limited resources, we still show that we care for them)
Aside from sacks of rice, the local government also provides them with thank you cards for their sacrifices; for making Manolo Fortich the way it is now.
"These are band aid solutions. Kailangan talaga natin ng mas sustainable na mga (we really need more sustainable) livelihood programs. Being an agricultural municipality, I'm working closely with the Department of Agriculture on ways to make farming more efficient," Quiño added.
The LGU also encourages other agencies to help fund their efforts especially in trying times.
While they are also celebrating their 106th founding anniversary of Bukidnon, September 1, the municipal government continues to encourage everyone to continue on making alternative solutions or income for themselves.
As for containing the spread of COVID-19, Quiño said they have organized 227 zone officers and auxiliary community leaders to conduct intensive information dissemination about COVID-19.
Doing so enabled ordinary citizens to do the advocacy themselves and remind others of the health protocols set by the Regional Inter Agency Task Force (RIATF) on COVID-19 such as the wearing of face shields and face masks.
Andanar affirmed such act saying he has witnessed how ordinary members of the community strictly adhere to the minimum public health standard where some even used a megaphone to remind people in a market area to observe social distancing at all times.
As of August 31, there are four confirmed COVID-19 cases in Manolo Fortich and 219 persons with history of travel or COVID-19 exposure. (RTP/PIA10)
