QUEZON CITY, Oct. 3 (PIA) – Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered key officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ensure that “beep” cards are given to commuters for free.
In the DOTr’s official Facebook page, Tugade said the government needs to find ways to alleviate the plight of the commuting public and spare them from incurring additional cost. This is why they should be spared from buying “beep” cards, apart from their daily fares.
It can be remembered that before the implementation of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), as part of its measure to help in the prevention of the transmission of COVID-19, has issued a policy mandating operators to fully implement automatic fare collection system (AFCS) in all public utility vehicles (PUVs).
