Virtual conference acquaints MSMEs with DTI SSF

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 29 (PIA) -- Around 100 Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the processed food sector from the different municipalities in the province of Iloilo participated in the recent Virtual Conference on Food Packaging and Equipment Solutions conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The activity acquainted MSMEs with the services available at the DTI Shared Service Facilities (SSF) in Iloilo which include prototyping, food processing machines and equipment, packaging and labelling.

“DTI 6 encouraged them to invest in these services at a minimal cost to pave the way for innovation in their business operations and improvement in productivity and competitiveness”, said Assistant Secretary Jonji Gonzales of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas in a report during the Laging Handa Network Briefing on Tuesday.

The shared service facilities cooperators that participated in the activity were the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) Fabrication Laboratory, Iloilo Metalcraft and Builders Multi-Purpose Cooperative (IMABMPC) and facilities for Toll Packaging, Food Processing, Labelling, and Vegetable Processing from the municipalities of Leon, Tigbauan and Pavia.

Recently, Gonzales said DTI-Iloilo turned over the established shared service facility to the cooperator IMABMPC located in Jaruda Metal Industries Compound at Brgy. Ticud, Lapaz in this city.

He said the facilities will enable the food processors to increase their productivity and accelerate their competitiveness by giving access to better technologies.

“This also encouraged the food processors to level up in their production to have a wider market share and be integrated in the global supply chain. With this, they will be able to address the gaps and bottleneck in the value chain of priority industry clusters”, said Gonzales. (JSC/laf/PIA6 Iloilo)
