BORONGAN CITY, Nov. 4 (PIA) - - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) - Eastern Samar Provincial Office distributed three sacks of hog grower feeds, vitamins, and medicines to 139 beneficiaries of the Convergence on Livelihood Assistance for Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Project (CLAAP).
Marietta Ortiguesa, focal person of CLAAP reported that recently four barangays — San Jose, Siha, Sohutan, and Balacdas — received assistance from the DAR Provincial Office (DARPO), Borongan City. Ortiguesa said these barangays identified their swine fattening project, implemented last year.
The focal person said that last year the DAR distributed two piglets, starter, grower and finisher feeds, medicines, and vitamins each for the 139 ARBs.
In Eastern Samar, there are four municipalities with 376 ARBs. Out of the 376 ARBs in Eastern Samar, only 139 ARBs are CLAAP beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries are in San Policarpo, the Alugan Integrated Community Farmers ARB Cooperative which has 30 members.
In Maydolong, Brgy. Maytigbao Farmers Association with 16 members, and Brgy. Canloterio Farmers Association with 18 members.
In Borongan City, Brgy. Balacdas Vegetable Association with 25 members, Brgy. San Jose ARB Association with 15 members, Brgy. Sohutan Farmers Association with 18 members and Siha ARB Cooperative with 17 members.
Ortiguesa disclosed that the said project is to further increase the family income of every agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) and to strengthen their association.
She further said that the DSWD Central Office selected the qualified beneficiaries and validated them by DAR Central Office. DAR hoped that this project will roll to other ARBs who did not receive the assistance, at least they will be given a chance to have swine fattening which is an additional income for them especially now with the COVID-19 pandemic.
CLAAP is a partnership project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), where the DSWD provides the funds in the amount of P893,575 and technical assistance in the review and approval of livelihood project proposals. (SDC/ PIA E. Samar)
