DOT offers free accreditation fees on tourism enterprises

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas has waived the accreditation fees this year to encourage more tourism enterprises to get the DOT nod on their operation.

The initiative is view of the agency's Tourism Rehabilitation and Recovery Strategies from 2020 to 2023 which include, among others, the support to recovery efforts thru creative and innovative ways to reinvigorate the MICE sector which has been hardly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions.

"We continue our campaign to our LGUs and enterprises regionwide to avail of this waived accreditation fee," said DOT 6 Tourism Operations Officer chief Cristine Mansinares.

As of now, we have a total of 1,185 DOT - accredited establishments in Western Visayas and we hope to increase it by the end of the year," she stressed.

The DOT Central Office has issued guidelines particularly on the health and safety protocols of their operation.

She added that compliant tourism enterprises applying for accreditation are issued with the Certificate of Authority to Operate (CAO) or a Provisional Certificate of Authority to Operate (PCAO) by the DOT.

Based on records, a total of 588 tourism - oriented and tourism - related enerprises in Western Visayas with over 11,000 available rooms were given CAO  and PCAO by DOT to reopen their respective establishments under a new normal operation.

The DOT presented the “Local Tourism Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic” to about 200 online participants of the Nov. 27 Dagyaw Virtual Town Hall Meeting in the region that was also streamed live over FB pages of concerned government agencies. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
