‘Too early’ to ease NCR quarantine restrictions to MGCQ says OCTA Research Group

CALOOCAN CITY, Feb. 2 (PIA) — The OCTA Research Group said that it’s too early to ease quarantine restrictions to Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) in Metro Manila.

“For Metro Manila, it’s too early to risk MGCQ at this stage lalo na the vaccine roll-out is about to happen,” OCTA Research Fellow Dr. Guido David said in Laging Handa Public Briefing on Monday, February 1.

David said, focus should be on the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out instead considering its utmost importance at this point.

“Unahin muna natin ang vaccine roll-out. We understand the economy, but the economy will recover more quickly once we’ve started vaccinating more people,” David said.

The OCTA Research Group likewise reported that the COVID -19  reproduction number in Metro Manila is more or less stable.

“Medyo flat ang trend ngayon sa Metro Manila kasi ang reproduction number ay nasa 1 meaning hindi siya tumataas hindi rin siya bumababa,”  David said.

The OCTA Research Group emphasized that it is important to avoid surge from happening because it will delay the process of COVID-19 vaccination.

“It’s better that we keep things in status quo. We’ll start the vaccine roll-out in few months and once we have that it’s easier for us to talk about the relaxing the economy even further,”  David said. (PIA-NCR)
