LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Apr 3 (PIA) - - Malacañang has declared April 5 (Monday) a special non-working day in Pangasinan as the province celebrates its 441st founding anniversary known as “Agew na Pangasinan” (Pangasinan Day).
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, signed Proclamation No. 1126 dated March 30, 2021, which states that it was “fitting and proper that the people of the province of Pangasinan be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.”
Dagupan City, while a chartered city, is included in the proclamation being an integral part of Pangasinan, by virtue of Republic Act No. 170.
In a public advisory issued on March 31, Governor Amado Espino III said the celebration of Agew na Pangasinan shall be subject to existing national and local quarantine protocols and minimum public heath standards especially in view of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.
This year’s celebration includes a ‘Misa na Pasasalamat’ (Thanksgiving Mass) at the Capitol grounds but only with a small group to adhere to the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
The proclamation stemmed from Republic Act No. 11374 which is “An Act Declaring April 5 of every year a Special Working Holiday in the Province of Pangasinan, in commemoration of its founding anniversary, to be known as the Pangasinan Day.”
Governor Espino announced during a joint meeting of the Pangasinan Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Pangasinan Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) said this year, the province requested for a ‘special non-working day’ and is thankful to the national government for the proclamation.
