BORONGAN CITY, April 6 (PIA) - - The Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (ESPPO) on Monday bared its Holy Week ‘operational harvest’ of illegal gamblers.
The ESPPO, under the supervision of PCol. Carlito Abriz, provincial director, with the elements of all line units, the Eastern Samar Provincial Intelligence Unit (ESPIU), and the direct cooperation of the community, successfully nabbed 28 violators of 'Tupada,' (illegal cockfighting) six 'Tong-its' (illegal cards game) violators and seven “Mahjong” offenders, garnering a total of 41 arrested violators of illegal gambling during the Holy Week.
The ‘tupada’ violators come from Sitio Ganay, Brgy. Busay, Mercedes, Eastern Samar, recovered fighting cocks, bet money, and ‘tupada’ paraphernalia. The violators are now in police custody for documentation and proper disposition.
In Sitio San Berto, Can-ilay, Can-avid another group of ‘tupada’ violators was nabbed with fighting cocks amounting to P 3,600 and bet money was confiscated.
The elements of Sulat MPS also arrested five ‘tupada’ gamblers in Brgy. San Juan, Sulat Eastern Samar.
In the capital Borongan City, joint elements of Borongan CPS and ESPIU also arrested two violators of ‘tupada’ in Brgy. Pepelitan, Borongan City and another two ‘tupada’ violators in Sitio Cogon, Brgy. Lalawigan.
The Municipal Police Stations of Taft, Salcedo, Guiuan, Dolores and Quinapondan also arrested violators of ‘tupada.’
All violators were informed of their constitutional rights and brought to the nearest police headquarters with the confiscated items for documentation and proper disposition.
As to ‘mahjong’ the Lawaan MPS and Gen. MacArthur MPS also nabbed ‘mahjong’ players on Holy Thursday.
Lastly, a total of six ‘tong-its’ (illegal cards game) were nabbed by the elements of Guiuan MPS, Dolores MPS, and ESPIU.
PCol. Abriz commended the untiring efforts of the different police stations and their personnel for the positive result of the operations conducted during the Holy Week. (nbq with ESPPO reports)
