OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, May 8 (PIA)--The Department of Education (DepEd)-Ozamiz is sustaining education learning continuity to ensure that education will continue amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Sustaining the interest of our learners in face-to-face classes is indeed a challenge but of course DepEd-10 lead by Regional Director Arturo Bayocot with so much engagement with 14 divisions under his jurisdiction to ensure that we keep our learners motivated to continue the blended distance learning,” Ozamiz City Division, Schools Division Superintendent Jean Veloso addressed said during the regional press conference, May 7.
Veloso announced that DepEd-10 has its flagship program called “RX ADOBE” or Alternative Delivery of Basic Education for Region 10 that aims to ensure learning continuity through the different learning modalities.
It also emphasizes the readiness of technology, teachers training, parent’s role and distance learning and stakeholders support and the quality of the self-learning modules that the divisions deliver to the schools and learners as well as the TV, radio base learning episodes.
“With this RX ADOBE, it is being translated to all the divisions and of course in the Division of Ozamiz City, we have ‘SPARK’ or it’s our new normal flagship program in which we contextualize the programs and projects from the regional office and we called it Safe and Proactive Adjustment towards Quality Education (SPARK),” Veloso explained.
The superintendent also discussed the initiatives of DepEd Ozamiz that include the Paaralan sa Tahanan that fosters collaboration, synergy, and engagement of school, home and community. Such initiative targets to ensure that the learners are learning and learners are still interested and the learners continue their learning at home with their parents as co-facilitators of learning.
DepEd Ozamiz also has a new project ‘mobile learning package,’ that brings the school to the doorstep of the learners considering that there are no face-to-face classes.
“This time we focus on the learners who are at risk of dropping out, who are already identified by our teachers. During the first quarter, there were around 140 students who were no longer that interested anymore. It comprised one percent of the total enrollment,” she said.
For the second quarter, the division of Ozamiz has brought back the 140 learners who were no longer interested in studying.
Veloso shares that DepEd Ozamiz strengthens the Paaralan sa Tahanan, the mobile learning package plus the LAMDAG, which is the regular online program in providing social support to the learners and teachers.
In sustaining the parents’ engagement, Veloso said, “We are helping them in the performance of their role as co-facilitators of learning. We are making sure that the parents will be engaged and the parents are supporting the continuity of learning to our learners amid the pandemic.”
Veloso added that the City Government of Ozamiz allowed the teachers to conduct home visitation for the learners at risk of dropping out. In that way, teachers are also helping the parents especially those who are having a hard time teaching their children.
In the midst of the crisis, Veloso said DepEd is exhausting all means to continue to improve and innovate teaching methods. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
