COTABATO CITY, May 9 (PIA)-- The city government, through the City Inter-agency Task Force, here re-implements the “No Movement Sunday” policy starting May 9 due to the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 being recorded in the city.
Cotabato City Mayor Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi said that the decision was made in order to avoid unnecessary travels to contain the spread of COVID-19.
“This April, we have recorded a total of 115 cases, just when we have already started our vaccination process,” Guiani-Sayad said in a video address posted on her official Facebook page.
The local chief executive also recalled that since the “No Movement Sunday” was lifted, more cases are being recorded everyday.
It can be recalled that the city LGU started the lifting of the “No Movement Sunday” policy on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday to allow Catholic believers to observe the Holy week, and on April 18, 25, and May 2 to allow Muslims’ free movement during Ramadhan.
The mayor also said that all establishments, offices, churches, terminals, markets, and other places frequented by people on a daily basis will now be required to scan the digital ID in their entrance and exit ways.
Further, the city LGU will also implement a strict border control. All authorized persons outside residence or APOR, government officials, employees, and other VIPs who will be entering the city will be required to present their digital IDs to be scanned at the checkpoints.
Meanwhile, Sayadi also appealed to the officials of neighboring provinces to follow the rules being implemented in the city.
As of May 6, 2021, the city has recorded a total of 88 active cases. Fifty-nine of them are admitted while 29 are in quarantine facility. (LTBolongon-PIA Cotabato City)
