MANILA – Minor dependents of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel aged 12 to 17 have started to receive their coronavirus shots as the pediatric vaccination for this group rolled out nationwide.
PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Joselito Vera Cruz said the vaccination started on November 1, a day after the vaccination of police personnel had been completed.
The vaccination rollout to the pediatric population aged 12 to 17 with comorbidities started last October 15 and was eventually expanded to include all minors under the age group, using US-made Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
For police personnel, Vera Cruz said out of the 2,884 unvaccinated, 859 have "valid" reasons, mostly medical ones, for not getting the life-saving shots.
Based on the latest PNP data, around 200,812 police personnel out of 224,021 are fully vaccinated, with only 20,335 waiting for their second dose.
"Majority naman dun sa 2,025 na unvaccinated ay nag-execute ng waiver na ayaw nila talaga magpabakuna (Majority of the unvaccinated personnel have executed a waiver that they do not want to get the jab) though meron din sa kanila ang naghihintay pa ng (some of them are waiting for the) availability of vaccines in their respective localities which hopefully will be addressed with the arrival of millions of vaccines as reported in the news," Vera Cruz said.
He also added that it was "difficult" to ship available vaccines in far-flung areas unless using the authorized cold chain logistics provider. (PNA)
