MAASIN CITY, May 29 (PIA) -- The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Maasin City has declared Thursday, May 28, a “pre-emptive lockdown” in the entire city to ensure the safety and security of its constituents after Baybay City in Leyte recorded its first COVID-19 case.
Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado signed Executive Order No. 36 prohibiting the entry of non-residents into the city.
However, those involved in the delivery of basic goods and services, medical supplies, health workers, and those government employees rendering emergency frontline services and border controls, will still be allowed to enter.
Those trying to get in for tourism-related purposes will not be allowed, the EO stated.
The first positive case in Baybay City was a beneficiary of the Balik Probinsya, Balik Pag-Asa Program of the national government, and based on the contact tracing, some of the patient’s contacts are from Matalom, Leyte, who were also beneficiaries of the program, it was learned. Matalom town is an adjacent municipality of Maasin City.
The pre-emptive lockdown is the city’s response measure to contain the spread of the virus and mitigate any adverse effects of COVID-19.
All local health units down to its barangay level are were directed to mobilize and coordinate with the LGU on delivering primary health services to all Maasinhons.
The EO will remain in effect unless sooner lifted.
As of this writing, Maasin City and the province of Southern Leyte remains COVID-free. (ldl/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
